Characteristics and Application of Beryllium Copper

Beryllium copper is a copper alloy with strength, conductivity, processability, fatigue resistance, heat resistance and corrosion resistance. Therefore, beryllium bronze is often used to manufacture various important elastic components, wear-resistant parts (clock gears, bearings under high temperature, high pressure and high speed), explosion-proof tools, etc., and is widely used in the field of electronic components such as connectors, switches, relays, etc. However, beryllium is a rare metal, which is expensive and limited in use.

strength

Through age hardening treatment, the tensile strength can reach 1500N/mm2, so it can be used as a high strength elastic material capable of withstanding high bending stress.

Processability

The materials before age hardening can undergo complex forming.

Conductivity

According to different alloys and specifications, the conductivity can reach the IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard) range of 20~70%. Therefore, it can be used as a highly conductive elastic material.

Fatigue resistance

Because of its excellent fatigue resistance (high cycle times), it is widely used in parts requiring long life and high reliability.

Heat resistance

Because the stress relaxation rate is still very small under high temperature environment, it can be used in a large temperature range.

Corrosion resistance

Beryllium copper has better corrosion resistance than copper alloys such as white copper. Copper alloy materials that are almost unaffected by the environment and have corrosion changes.

Commonly used beryllium copper brand numbers are as follows: C17200/C17300/C17000 are high-strength deformed alloys; C17500/C17510 are highly conductive deformed alloys;
